Solution Spotlight: New Application Development

The Customer: A regional hospital in California with more than 15,000 employees and staff.

The Challenge: Cost-effectively streamline the hospital’s user management system to provide easier access to enterprise applications while reducing IT support resources.

This client’s existing user management system was struggling to manage the secure login accounts for more than 15,000 doctors, nurses, clinicians and administrators. New and departing employees and internal job changes increased the demand for new account creations, deactivations and permission changes. With the deployment of several new applications, end users had difficulty remembering passwords and login procedures, creating a higher volume of technical support requests for account resets and user management.

Hospital management faced the decision to hire support specialists to handle the increased technical support demands, or implement a new login process as cost-effectively as possible.

The Quantros IT Consulting Solution: Develop a Single Sign-On solution to automate and simplify secure account management for all users.

A growing healthcare organization can quickly overwhelm legacy technology and support infrastructure. The Quantros IT Consulting Group helped this client get back up to speed by developing and implementing a Single Sign-On (SSO) process.

With a single, verified login event, the SSO solution allows each user to access networked programs and databases based on pre-determined permissions. The significant medical event informatics experience and combined U.S.-based and overseas development team provided by the Quantros IT Consulting Group ensured a smooth overall development process.

Technology Used: The Quantros QConnect site-2-site security appliance, used with “read only” privileges, allowed our team to synchronize the hospital’s existing LDAP authentication architecture with their Quantros enterprise applications.

Key Results: With a single user ID and password to remember, account reset and other basic management requests are minimized. The SSO solution has also simplified and streamlined account creation, deactivation and customization of user-specific access. As a result, hospital staff has much quicker access to enterprise tools without placing increased burden on internal IT resources.
