Senior Biostatistician/Epidemiologist
Position Description
Plans, directs and conducts studies concerned with quality and patient safety data, the incidence of disease and effects of risk factors on health and economic outcomes. This person will support research and development in the areas of outcome studies, health-care clinical improvement and outcomes management concepts and ideas; participates in development of outcomes analyses related to pharmaceutical and/or medical device organizations.
Provide strategic input into research, to propose methodologically and statistically sound study design and data analysis plans to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements. Conduct and supervise performance of analyses, evaluation and reporting, working closely with data management, business & marketing groups.
Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues. Interprets analyses and writes statistical sections of study reports.
Participates in submission of abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed meetings and journals.
Duties:
- Plan and conduct epidemiological studies and provide detailed specifications for collecting data to personnel participating in studies.
- Produce methodologically and statistically sound study design and data analysis plans to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements. Provide biostatistical expertise regarding study design, model development and interpretation.
- Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues.
- Gather and analyze such information as demographic characteristics, hospital characteristics and social and economic factors. Analyzes data collected to determine probable effects on clinical and economic outcomes, using valid statistical techniques and knowledge of epidemiology.
- Develop R and/or SAS programs including database manipulation, descriptive statistics and predictive modeling using time-series data.
- Interpret analyses and writes methodological and statistical sections of study reports. Prepare technical reports for internal and external customers.
- Participates in the development of abstract and manuscript submissions.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree/Ph.D An MPH with additional medical training such as an MD or RN will be considered.
- Experience: at least 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- Experience in conducting epidemiological and statistical studies and directing others. Has experience in the design and conduct of retrospective cohort and case-control studies. Has experience in newer methods such as propensity score matching. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Experience with management of large population based databases and has familiarity with data issues and analysis of registry, quality and safety data.
- Experience in analyzing and interpreting data, as well as displaying data in a compelling manner and writing findings.
- Attention to Detail: produces accurate work, even when under pressure; checks the accuracy of information before using it or passing it on to others. Ability to work to tight timelines while maintaining accuracy.
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Experience working independently, able to manage own work streams and coordinate with others. Ability to work within a team structure – with staff from multiple disciplines
- Skilled in R statistical software, SAS and manipulation of large data files.
- Healthcare and life sciences industry experience preferred.
- A demonstrated publication record in clinical research is highly preferred.
