Missouri Center for Patient Safety PSO Chooses Quantros

June 9, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - The Missouri Center for Patient Safety (MOCPS) has chosen Quantros to power its Patient Safety Organization (PSO) efforts to continue to improve safety and improve healthcare quality among the state’s healthcare providers.

"After reviewing several options for a data partner for our PSO services, Quantros was selected based on its comprehensive data platform, array of service offerings that complement those offered by the Center, pricing, and history of providing service to many Missouri providers. It is the most comprehensive, value-focused PSO vendor we’ve seen," said Becky Miller, MHA, CPHQ, FACHE, executive director of MOCPS.

"We are thrilled to have the Missouri Center for Patient Safety join our other PSO partners - the Florida Patient Safety Corporation and the North Carolina Quality Center," says Jay Lechtman, vice president of consulting and program development at Quantros. "It is further proof that we have created a combination of industry-leading technology and unparalleled services that is best able to support PSOs as they embark on this critical national initiative."

Quantros’ Patient Safety Organization Manager (PSOM) was designed specifically to help PSOs meet the requirements to achieve – and maintain – federal PSO certification. The technology platform is a proven, field-tested system that enables the rapid implementation of the required data infrastructure.

And more than software, Quantros offers its PSO partners a comprehensive array of patient safety and quality improvement services - advanced data analytics including RCA reviews, best practice recommendations and implementation, safety collaborative development, staffing support and more - through its own staff of clinical experts and industry-leading partner organizations.

PSOs were created under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 in order to foster a legal environment that encourages providers to openly share safety issues and work collaboratively to improve them by ensuring that their work with the PSO cannot be used against them in court or disciplinary proceedings.

Administered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), PSOs:

  • Grant federal confidentiality and privilege protection for patient safety data submitted to a PSO.
  • Provide participants with broader comparative data on preventable medical errors.
  • Provide participants with data analytic and consulting services to help them improve patient safety in their organizations.
  • Submit de-identified safety data to a new Network of Patient Safety Databases to improve national benchmarking.
