West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) Recognizes Quantros for Patient Safety Efforts
Quantros Recognized for Its Contribution and Collaboration with WVMI as part of an AHRQ Funded Grant in Helping Rural West Virginia Hospitals Improve Patient Safety
San Francisco, CA-August 9, 2007 - West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI), the nonprofit organization that serves as the state's federally designated Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), recognized Quantros Inc. with an award at a July 26 conference in Charleston, WV, for its participation in statewide patient safety initiative. Quantros was a key partner in the program "Partnering to Improve Patient Safety in West Virginia," a three-year project supported by a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
"The Quantros incident reporting system and supporting team were a critical component to this successful 3-year effort" noted Patricia Ruddick, Director of Patient Safety at WVMI. "Their Web-based platform and clinically-driven system allowed WVMI to roll-up patient safety data from all participating facilities and use both facility and aggregate trend data to aid participating facilities in implementing and monitoring safety and quality interventions."
"WMVI has been a tremendous partner and we are honored to have received this award from them," said Dr. Sanjaya Kumar, President and CMO at Quantros. "The success of the AHRQ funded program is another testament of the role the right technology can play in improving safety and quality."
The 27 hospitals that took part in the project used the safety and risk management system developed by Quantros. WVMI designed the patient safety project in 2001, and six hospitals began using the reporting system the following year. A $1.7 million matching grant in October 2004 boosted participation to more than two dozen hospitals.
