Quantros Announces Integration of Quality Performance Data with Safety & Risk Management Solution

Automated Integration of Core Measures Quality Indicators Variance Data from Quantros RRM to Quantros SRM Allows Identification of Causal Factors and Intervention Opportunities

San Francisco, CA, August 31, 2007 - Quantros, a leader in safety and risk event work-flow management solutions and analytic decision support tools, today announced the release of Quantros Core Measures Variance Triggers, an offering that seamlessly integrates quality indicator variance data from Quantros Regulatory Reporting Management (RRM) modules for use within Quantros Safety and Risk Management (SRM.) This new offering deepens the ties between healthcare quality and safety and expands Quantros SRM beyond the realm of voluntary self-reported incidents.

Currently, the vast majority of quality Core Measures solutions focus on the tracking, measure performance monitoring and submission of data to the required set of national and state reporting initiatives, such as The Joint Commission (TJC) for continued accreditation and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for its Pay-for-Performance program. Understanding how well hospitals fare on a given measure is clearly important. It is more important, however, to understand why some eligible, measure-specific denominator population (patients) fall off the numerator or, as in some cases, are included in the numerator such as in the instance of unexpected mortality and complications. A number of these cases qualify as "preventable adverse events" and require their cause and identification of key system issues to be addressed.

An example of this would be where acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients did not receive timely reperfusion. Through the Core Measures initiative the system monitors how reperfusing AMI patients are treated in time, but does not necessarily focus attention on cases, their characteristics, and factors influencing the processes for patients who did not receive reperfusion on time. To continually improve the system, it is critical to focus attention on cases that do not meet the numerator criteria for several of the established Core Measures. Having quality variances data automatically integrate with Quantros SRM provides a ready environment for complementary case data with additional data points allowing for further follow-up and investigation. The case example above would be classified as a "General Clinical Treatment Event - Delay" in the Quantros SRM events data repository and would include information on the length of the delay and any additional contributory factors.

"The additional data being captured by Quantros RRM is very valuable, relevant and vital to further improving safety and risk insight, as well as for further augmentation of data collected through self-reported incidents" noted Sanjaya Kumar, MD, President & CMO of Quantros. "With this added optional capability, our clients using both RRM and SRM will be able to have a clearer picture of what's taking place within their organization without having to undertake additional data collection. The result will be more swift insight into issues and towards the right interventions. In addition, there is the opportunity for improvement in key indicator rates that are now part of the pay for performance agenda."
