Quantros and ISMP Announce Collaboration Agreement to Further Medication Safety

Partnership Provides for Ongoing MEDMARX Analysis, Research and Services to Advance Medication Error and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Knowledge for Healthcare Providers

December 9, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - Quantros, a leading provider of safety, quality, and compliance solutions for the healthcare industry, and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), today announced a joint collaboration to advance the science in medication error prevention. ISMP will work with Quantros to provide ongoing MEDMARX analysis to identify opportunities to guide medication-centric intervention and best practices. Under this agreement, Quantros and ISMP will work together to disseminate key findings to its clients. MEDMARX®, operated by Quantros, is a national, Internet-accessible database that hospitals and health care systems use to track and trend adverse drug reactions and medication errors.

Both Quantros and ISMP bring a strong pedigree of expertise in the area of patient safety as well as a list of prominent healthcare providers that can benefit from this agreement through enhanced insight and guidance toward improving their environment of care. As part of this agreement, the two companies will engage in ongoing research that will help the healthcare industry better understand and take action to reduce the occurrence of preventable medication errors and adverse drug reactions.

"Medication errors today account for about one third of all preventable medical errors" noted Dr. Sanjaya Kumar, President and CMO for Quantros. "Both companies have a wealth of medication error and ADR knowledge that can be used to help improve the state of patient safety throughout the world. ISMP, with its in-depth experience and expertise in the area of medications, is the perfect partner to further this cause."

"We are excited about this new collaboration and the many opportunities it presents to improve patient safety through research and information dissemination," said Dr. Michael R. Cohen, president of ISMP. "The MEDMARX database provides access to over 1 million standardized records for identification and trending of medication safety issues identified through the experiences of its users. We look forward to working closely with Quantros to serve their clients and the public as we each step up our future patient safety advocacy efforts."

The nation continues to see medication errors devastate the lives of patients, families and healthcare employees each and every day. This partnership was created to support national efforts to significantly reduce medication error occurrence and promote safe medication practices.
