PARKERSBURG –WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center was named among the 100 best hospitals for stroke care and rated in the top 100 in the nation for patient safety in the categories of cardiac and orthopedic care, according to two national studies
Camden Clark was rated in reports released by Healthgrades, an online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, and by Quantros, a health care industry’s provider of performance analytics, risk management and quality management solutions through its CareChex ratings.
Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions and tracks outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states and the District of Columbia.
The CareChex rankings benchmark the clinical quality, patient safety and performance of nearly all acute care hospitals and health systems throughout the U.S. It is recognized as being the most accurate industry standard for showing care variation and are trusted by millions of value-seeking providers, purchasers and consumers of medical care
The rankings are part of findings released this month in the Healthgrades 2019 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance differs dramatically between hospitals nationally, regionally and at the local level, and the impact that this variation has on health outcomes.
For example, from 2015-2017, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care Award have, on average, a 38.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.
Additionally, the CareChex 2019 Hospital and Health System Quality and Patient Safety Rankings and Ratings are the industry’s only outcomes scoring mechanism that takes into account the true risk profile of a patient and that compares like populations to isolate true variances. The variances are then assessed for statistical significance, ensuring that those being recognized are truly providing higher quality, lower cost care relative to their peers.

WVU Medicine Camden Clark is the only hospital in the state of West Virginia to be recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best for Stroke Care in 2019.

Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for almost 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states and the District of Columbia. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as five-star (statistically significantly better than expected), three-star (not statistically different from expected) and one-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
